NATO's Rapid Reaction Force in Italy hosted 63 students and professors from Parma University and the Free International University of Social Studies Guido Carli (LUISS) in Rome.

The young people, accompanied by professors Giulio Tagliavini and Massimo Franchi for the University of Parma and Professor Raffaele Marchetti for LUISS, lived for two days in close contact with the multinational staff of the NRDC-ITA.

The university delegations had the opportunity to visit the advanced tactical command post of the armed body level, built inside the barracks "Ugo Mara", home of NRDC-ITA. Also, after attending a demonstration of Military Combat Method (MCM), have reviewed some of the main tools and materials provided.

The activity ended with the presentation to the Chief of Staff of NRDC-ITA, gen. d. Maurizio Riccò, of the results of the analyzes developed by the students during the "Brilliant Ledger 2017" tutorial, recently concluded, and during the same multiple times, also in video conferencing, to the team of Knowledge Development (KD).

KD is a functional branch of the NRDC-ITA deputy, in applying the concept of Comprehensive Approach, to the understanding of complex systems through the analysis of not only military but also political, economic, social, infrastructural and information (as means of communication) factors in support of the Commander's decisions.

During the "Brilliant Ledger", the purpose of which was to test the NRDC-ITA's ability to plan and conduct high-intensity operations as a Terrestrial Component of the new "enhanced" NATO Response Force (eNRF), the students contributed to 'analysis of the operating environment, thus appreciating the direct application of the studies in pragmatic and real situations even though they relate to exercise scenarios.

This has made a valuable contribution in addition to the more classical analysis of the military environment in support of the team Knowledge Development. For both universities, activity has been a valuable tool for measuring students' acquired skills during the course.

The experience gained by NRDC-ITA in the field of collaboration with the academic world has shown that civil-military interaction in the management of a crisis is not only possible, both in the planning and in the conduct phase, but it is very useful for a deep and complete knowledge of the different dimensions of the operating environment. This also contributes to achieving the set goals more quickly, efficiently, effectively, economically and, above all, safer for Alliance military personnel.

NRDC-ITA will play the role of NATO Response Force's terrestrial component in the 2018, as anticipated by the long-term restructuring plan of NATO structures. It is an advanced "advanced" military reaction tool that allows the Alliance to deal with any threat in the name of Collective Defense in response to the crisis, with very short deployment times.

In particular, within the framework of the eNRF, NRDC-ITA will control and control the terrestrial part of Very Hight Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF), whose task is to secure the first and immediate NATO response to possible threats, with the ability to deploy the entire military device between 5 and 15 days from the ordering notice. The VJTF is a "packet" of highly operational multinational forces, with which the Alliance has enhanced the structure of the NRF. This device is also supported by an airborne, maritime and special forces component.
