28/02/23

This morning Undersecretary of State for Defense Matteo Perego di Cremnago met UN Undersecretary General Atul Khare in Rome.

The meeting took place after a recent MAECI-Defence-UN technical table, regarding the areas granted for exclusive use at the Air Force grounds of Brindisi and San Vito dei Normanni.

During the technical table, the need to allow easier management of the sites by the UN was recognized and the MAECI will propose a new text of the already existing agreement between Italy and the United Nations which will be able to use civilian and military installations in the country to support peacekeeping and humanitarian operations in particular with reference to the Brindisi Air Base and the base of San Vito dei Normanni (BR).

“The Global Field Support Strategy of Brindisi and its twin in Valencia are unique in the world as global service centers (UNGSC)” says Perego "on which the entire logistics of peacekeeping operations and special political missions of the United Nations depend"

“It is an added value compared to other UN structures in the world” concludes Perego "in a strategic position, that of Brindisi, with port, airport, railway and the necessary human resources, an advantage that this reality is in Italy, a country that always ensures, at all levels, convinced support for the United Nations".
