AIB 2020: the Armed Forces participate in the summer fire campaign

(To Greater Defense)

The AIB 2020 campaign, which began on 15 June and will continue until 30 September, consolidates the collaboration, which has been underway for years, between the Armed Forces, the National Fire Brigade and Civil Protection (PROCIV) to make it more effective and incisive the fight against forest fires.

Defense contributes to the AIB 2020 campaign by ensuring the availability of 7 Armed Forces helicopters and military areas within some national airports. The Civil Protection will thus be able to count in the period of maximum commitment on a fleet of 31 aircraft, 24 from the National Fire Brigade and 7 from the Italian Army, Navy, Air Force and Arma dei Carabinieri.

The commitment of the Armed Forces is part of the agreement signed between the Ministry of Defense and the Department of Civil Protection as part of the AIB campaign, which also provides for the Unified Air Operations Center (COAU), as the coordinating body of interventions in case of emergency.

Firefighting is one of the capabilities that the Defense makes available to the national community on a daily basis in cases of public disasters, where purely military assets can also be used profitably for civilian needs, operating in close synergy and in support of the various agencies and state bodies.
