Cygnus, the First 36.7 of the Anzio Sailing Section of the Navy, won first place in the IRC and ORC division of Riva per Tutti 2023, the Tyrrhenian classic organized by the Circolo Nautico Riva di Traiano (CNRT). With constantly demanding marine weather conditions, determined by the center of a low pressure on the regatta area, the Navy boat completed in about 36 hours, between 15 and 17 April, the 218 miles of a course with start and finish in Riva di Traiano and turning point in Ventotene.

Helmed by Rear Admiral Vito Lacerenza, president of the Sailing Section of Anzio, crewed by Domenico Carbone, Giovanni Schiavoni, Giovanni Salomone, Alfredo Deflorio and Andrea Pendibene, the First 36.7, designed by Bruce Farr, sailed halfway through the course with a fresh and gusty south-west wind, waves up to two meters high and under various squalls. On the return stretch, a few hours of strong sirocco and waves from the southeast gave the boat speed, under spinnaker, and gave us some planing. Then it was the turn of a north-east wind over 20 knots with rough seas, which imposed long windward edges for several tens of miles, up to the shorter and more tactical ones near the coast, which, with rapid tacks, led Cygnus to victory.

Preparation for the regatta, selection and adjustment of the sails, constant and careful analysis of the meteorological evolution, weighted tactical decisions and above all a strong crew spirit were the determining elements for the achievement of the prestigious result.

Excellent organization by the CNRT, chaired by Alessandro Farassino, which gave ample visibility and prestige to an event which this year was its thirtieth anniversary.

Cygnus he is also the reigning champion in IRC and ORC of another prestigious Tyrrhenian regatta also organized by the CNRT, the Roma Giraglia. Next engagement for the First 36.7 of the Sailing Section of Anzio will be the Centomiglia of the Middle Tyrrhenian Sea, organized by the Circeo Yacht Vela Club, scheduled for 6-7 May 2023.
