The first stage of the Coppa Italia class ended on Saturday 27 April in the waters in front of the picturesque seafront of Bari. Dinghy, the oldest Italian sailing class. The event, organized by the Barion Rowing Club on behalf of the VIII Zone Committee of the Italian Sailing Federation, saw the participation of over forty crews from all over Italy and the most important, in terms of results achieved, athletes of the national sailing scene.

During the three days dedicated to the event, held within the regatta field in front of the old port of the Apulian capital, the strong wind allowed all six scheduled races to take place, but above all it was a guarantee of spectacle and high competition between crews.

Alberto Patrone of the Cogoleto Velico Club climbed to the top step of the podium, while Cosimo Bottiglione, commodore of the Sailing Section of the Navy, already 2023 Zonal Champion and "top five" at the 2023 Italian Championship, achieved a very precious third place. important result for Bottiglione, but above all for the Sailing Sport of the Navy which, also in light of the second place achieved at the end of the Ionian Offshore Winter Championship with the Canopus vessel of the Taranto Sailing Section, demonstrates growing competitiveness at the national, a tangible sign that the route traced is the right one.

“We are really happy with the results achieved by our Athletes who, ranging from twenty to sixty-seven years old, are the best demonstration of what a truly united team, such as the Navy, can do" the words of the president of the Taranto sailing section, captain Luigi Cau.

With a view to promoting the culture of the sea and the importance of the maritime dimension for a nation like Italy, stretching out into the sea with its 8.000 km of coastline, the practice of sailing is not only sport and competition but also an important tool of training and an indispensable school of life. Among the objectives of the Sailing Sections is to develop a sense of the crew and shared rules, to teach care for the vessel assigned to you but above all to allow, in a relationship of respect and love for the sea, to knowing oneself and one's limits, fueling the desire to continually expand them, in a virtuous process of constant improvement.

In this sense, the athletes of the Taranto sailing section are preparing to face the next national and international challenges in the offshore field, first with the Champions Cup which will be held in Trani from 31 May to 2 June, then with the international Brindisì - Corfù regatta which will leave on June 09th from the Salento city.
