Invictus Games: Team Italy reaches 9 medals

​The first gold of the Italian Team was obtained by the team captain, Brigadier General Roberto Como of the Army, in the 1500 meters race in the IT3 category.

General Como then obtained in the competition the indoor rowing of 4 minutes a silver and a bronze in the 1 minute test in the IR3 category.

In swimming the Italian team has conquered the top steps of the podium on several occasions.

Retired Army officer cadet Matteo Pieropan obtained 2 golds in the 100 meters freestyle and 50 meters backstroke and 2 silvers respectively in the 50 meters freestyle and 50 meters breaststroke, all in the ISA category.

Furthermore, in swimming, in the 50 meter backstroke, the bronze went to the first Air Force airman Maurizio Panella in the ISA category.

A bronze was also won in table tennis by the admin team. Salvatore Vasta in the double seated category ITT1 and ITT3 with the Polish Kosiaca.

The Invictus Games, which will end on September 16, are an international event of Paralympic sport.

21 nations participate in competitions in: athletics, cycling, indoor rowing, swimming, powerlifting, sitting volleyball, table tennis, archery, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby.

The Italian team, made up of 15 athletes from the Armed Forces and civilian Defense personnel, is captained by Brigadier General Roberto Como.
