From the 2005 it is possible to directly access the Incursori or Palombari course by taking advantage of the over 70 places made available by the navy. If it was necessary to have already passed the VFP4 competition until last year to participate in one of the two ordinary courses to obtain the prestigious patents, this year we can express the desire to become part of the elite corps of the navy by participating in the competition for VFP1.

Now also the VFP1 has been extended the possibility to become:

Incursor: Operator of the unique special forces department of the Navy employed in several operating theaters and specialized in occult operations in maritime and land environments.

Palombaro: diver highly specialized in the execution of complex work in diving and qualified for the use of various techniques of underwater intervention and modern types of self-contained breathing apparatus.

Candidates who are winners in the VFP1 competition and have expressed their willingness to enter the Incursori or Palombari course will be subjected to medical examinations and, if eligible, will receive the basics of military life at Mariscuola Taranto during the month of September. In December, the candidates will reach the mythical fortress of Varignano, the historical site of the Submarine and Navy Commanders (Comsubin).

For both categories the course will begin in January and will last approximately 5 months.

In this period the candidates, led by expert instructors, will achieve the ideal physical form required to tackle all the tests of the course, will be trained in the use of weapons, the tactical movement on the ground, day and night, to swim for long tracts on the surface and under water using the various breathing apparatus supplied in maximum safety, will be tested with the most modern diving equipment necessary to operate deep, under the surface of the sea.

In short, they will test the body and soul to levels they never thought they could reach, to become part of the elite departments of the navy.

At the end of this first phase, candidates will receive a certificate of attendance of the basic training course, from Incursor or from Palombaro, which will be valid as a merit title for the frequency of the competition by VFP4.

Those who have had the strength and the will to get to this point and to be winners of the VFP4 competition will be able to continue training until they get to the Basque Green Basin for the Incursori or Basque Blue for the Palombari.
