Yesterday the corvette Fenice, the patrol Orione and the destroyer Mimbelli were engaged in the Strait of Sicily in the rescue of two inflatable boats with many migrants on board.

In the first intervention ship Fenice rescued 119 migrants.

The second rubber boat was spotted by the patrol Mimbelli ship helicopter.

Given the precarious floating conditions of the boat, which then sunk, the rescue rafts were launched by the Navy aircraft and the Fenice ship headed towards the area at maximum speed rescuing 52 migrants.

Subsequently the Orione ship helicopter, patrolling in the area of the second aid, sighted two migrants clinging to a barrel. The two migrants were rescued by helicopter personnel and transhipped first on a Mimbelli ship for a health check and finally on a Fenice ship that will disembark them at Lampedusa within the day.

Nave Mimbelli remained in the area and continued to search for missing persons.
