On Monday 14 December, at 15.30 pm, the Amerigo Vespucci training ship starts up two of its new four diesel-generator engines (DD / GG) for the first time.

The delicate phase of tests in port begins (HAT - Harbor Acceptance Trials), which will see the ship engaged in the exciting final rearrangement activities and in the first outings at sea, scheduled as early as March 2016.

The Navy training ship, the "oldest" Naval Squadron unit and the most admired across the globe, is engaged in huge works of modernization and extension of its operational life that will serve to give an unparalleled renewal throughout life of Nave Vespucci and which also provide for the complete replacement of the propulsion and power generation equipment.

The new systems are based on 2 diesel generator engines at the stern and 2 smaller ones at the bow, built by the German firm MTU. 12 V-shaped cylinders, with a power of 1320 kW for the stern engines and 8 cylinders of 760 kW for the bow ones, all four of very high performance and, above all, very low environmental impact.

Both stern DD / GGs were successfully started on Monday, bringing them up to 1500 rpm for about 15 minutes. So, after a little over two years, Vespucci made his voice heard again in the Naval Station of La Spezia, as if to warn everyone that his return to sail the waves is now near, ready to summarize the role of Ambassador of the Navy and of Italy all over the world.
