Idria Prize awarded to the Mare Nostrum crew

Last Saturday, at the Church of Santa Barbara in Paternò, the sixth edition of the Idria award took place. The prize, established in the 2009 by the local pro loco, sponsored by the presidency of the council of ministers and by the ministry of defense, aims to reward the military and exponents of state institutions that have distinguished themselves for their attachment to the homeland and the uniform , distinguishing itself in humanitarian operations.

This year the award was given to the naval crews, citing the motivation: "For the role played in the Operation Mare Nostrum"-" The military involved showed a very strong sense of duty, very high professional attitudes as well as a strong spirit of sacrifice and a predisposition to solidarity towards those human beings in serious difficulty, guaranteeing their safety and security ", and still" L ' commitment and the great spirit of sacrifice lavished by the crews is a reason to shine for the personnel operating in the Armed Forces and for Italy more generally, as well as demonstration of human solidarity and attachment to the most important values ​​of the navy ".

The chief of staff took part in the delivery ceremony Comforpat, ship captain Alberto Maffeis, who withdrew the welcome recognition, recalling once again in his thanks the important work that all the "sailors" involved in the military and humanitarian operation have carried out with commitment and sacrifice, succeeding, in little more a year of operation Mare Nostrum, to rescue over 90.000 migrants on board the military units.
