Handover between the tactical commanders of Operation Safe Mediterranean

The rotation ceremony between the tactical commanders of the operation was held on Monday 12 June Safe Mediterranean aboard ship Volcano, moored at the commercial quay of the port of Augusta.

The event, in the presence of the commander in chief of the naval squadron, squadron admiral Aurelio De Carolis, saw Rear Admiral Luca Pasquale Esposito hand over command of the operation at sea to Rear Admiral Gianguido Manganaro.

The operation Safe Mediterranean (OMS) makes use of a system of forces made up of ships, submarines, planes, helicopters and coastal radar stations, which ensures presence and surveillance in the strategically important maritime areas of the Mediterranean Sea, through "a scheme that is constantly reworked on the basis of the evolution of the strategic and operational situation in the Mediterranean, refined on the basis of intelligence information and adapted to the trend of the weather conditions"  the words of the adm. DeCarolis. The synergy of several vessels with different characteristics allows to carry out the different assigned tasks ranging from the defense of national interests, to the protection of economic activities on the high seas, to the generation of concrete forms of deterrence against any possible threat.
