Nave Doria participated in the exercise Joint Warriors 15-2 (JW), which took place from 4 to 15 October, off the coast of the Hebridean Islands (Atlantic Ocean).

A complex activity with the aim of increasing interoperability between naval, air and land assets of the 12 participating NATO nations, and to perfect the capabilities to operate within a complex and articulated crisis scenario. The vehicles 'deployed' for the exercise: 28 naval units, 4 submarines, ground troops, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.

During the exercise, all the structures had the opportunity to train their crews and staff on board and on the ground, in a simulated scenario of growing crisis between multiple international players: a single common thread led the task group from the port of Faslane inside the Minch Channel (Hebridean Islands) to conduct defense activities against air, surface, underwater and asymmetric threats, with the realistic use of rules of engagement that have contributed to increasing the level of complexity activity, providing for the staff of the Doria ship interesting moments of comparison and professional growth.

In the field of control and management of the maritime space and in particular in the context of Maritime Interdiction Operation and control of Sea Line of Communication, the team of the San Marco marine brigade, embarked on the Doria ship, conducted a boarding on a freighter simulating the transport of illegal weapons.

The exercise was made particularly realistic and current, also thanks to the cyber attacks carried out against the command and control networks of the entire task group.

Alongside the aforementioned training topics, the command, control and coordination procedures in the 'ballistic missile defense' sector were tested for the first time, and ship Doria is the first unit in the Navy that has had the opportunity to access a network. international data exchange link, created specifically for the defense against ballistic threats.

The latter theme will be examined in depth during the exercise At Sea Demo 15, planned from 18 to 26 October 2015, during which activities will be conducted with the aim of testing the capabilities of naval units to combat the conventional and ballistic missile threat.
