Medex 15, bilateral exercise between the military navies of Algeria and Italy

As part of the military cooperation activities between the countries bordering the Mediterranean, the bilateral exercise was held between the navies of Italy and Algeria from 6 to 8 October, called Medex 15. In the waters in front of the Algerian port of Jijel, the Italian Navy participated with the patrol boat Commander Borsini while the Algerian Navy with the corvette El Kirch and the offshore tug El Moussanud.

The training event saw the crews and vehicles of the two marines engaged in exercises with increasing difficulty, thanks to which it was possible to develop training themes, aimed at improving the ability to operate in multinational contexts.

In fact, in this area of ​​the world the watchword is synergy, the same that made it possible to make the event an opportunity to train crews to control merchant traffic, to combat illegal activities at sea, to control migratory flows. with search and rescue (SAR) operations.

Ship Borsini, under the command of the frigate captain Antonio Giuseppe Palombella, he also conducted confidence building activities within a context of multinational cooperation. As in the '5 + 5' initiative, which involves the North and South Seas of the Mediterranean Sea such as Portugal, France, Spain, Italy, Malta, Mauritania, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and Libya, which aims to strengthen the research and development in a context of shared security, thus responding to the possible strategic challenges affecting the Mediterranean.
