Marina and ASL of Taranto, collaboration in the medical field

More than ten years have passed since the commissioning of the hyperbaric system of the Military Hospital of Taranto, and in the course of this year there have already been a thousand hyperbaric oxygen therapy (OTI) treatments. Most of the OTI treatments were carried out in favor of civilian patients from the Ionian province, or from neighboring areas.

It is from the 2003 that the Center's hyperbaric system, the only one active in the province of Taranto, guarantees 24 hours on 24 the management of emergencies, such as underwater and hyperbaric emergencies, both in the case of decompression decompression of the divers and of acute monoxide poisoning of carbon.

Even in cases of severe soft tissue infections (gangrene), or severe limb trauma with crushing and open fractures - in which OTI represents an effective complementary therapy associated with surgical-orthopedic treatment and antibiotic therapy - implantation has provided its 'contribution', thanks to the professionalism and specialist training of the Navy personnel (doctors, nurses, military divers and civilian technicians), and of the doctors specializing in hyperbaric medicine and anesthesia of the ASL of Taranto.

An agreement between Marina and Regione Puglia, renewed until 2019, allows from the 18 May of last year the treatment of civil patients suffering from acute and chronic diseases, for which hyperbaric oxygen therapy is an effective cure, proven by scientific research, as in skin ulcers of various origins, in the diabetic foot, in sudden deafness, aseptic osteonecrosis of the head of the femur and in chronic osteomyelitis, only to indicate the pathologies of greater response.

With a new generation plant, in line with those operating in the main national hyperbaric centers, the work of trained medical and technical personnel, the observation of the strict regulations in force on quality and safety, the diving and hyperbaric medicine service of the Center Military Hospital of Taranto, represents an excellence in the panorama of Ionian healthcare.
