42 nations displaced by naval means in a training area that goes from the Persian Gulf to the Red Sea. This is the operational scenario that started the 21 last October, at the largest mine countermeasure exercise, the IMCMEX 14 (International Mine Counter Measure Exercise).

The International MCM Exercise, now in its third edition, is organized by the US Naval Force Central Command (NAVCENT), with the aim of training a multinational coalition in the operations of Mine Counter Measures Operation (mine research), Maritime Security Operation, and Harbur Protection Operation, to protect maritime communication lines and important choke points.

The exercise represents an extraordinary opportunity to improve civil-military cooperation and increase the ability to defend areas of vital importance for world trade.

The Italian navy, which has long been one of the NATO reference points in the field of mine countermeasures, is represented by an officer specialized in mines and mine countermeasures, the corvette captain Luca Traversaro, who will operate as a current staff officer on board the USS vessel Ponce, amphibious unit of the US Navy as well as command headquarters of mine countermeasure forces.
