27/10/14

Collaboration activities continue between the navy and other bodies in the area, where men and vehicles are made available to the civil community in projects designed to protect the marine environment. In this context, in recent days the Rimini minesweeper from the navy has conducted the operations of reconnaissance of the seabed in the water in front of the former arsenal of the port of La Maddalena.

The operation was preceded by a meeting on board the unit, attended by the mayor of La Maddalena, Angelo Comiti, accompanied by a technical staff of the municipality, the commander of the unit and his staff of specialists, and the military authority of garrison and commander of Mariscuola La Maddalena. The meeting served to define exactly the modalities of the Rimini ship contribution, preliminary to a subsequent careful monitoring of the state of the waters in front of the former arsenal.

The aim is to verify the absence of potential dangers for navigation, whether natural, for example rocks, or artificial, such as old port equipment, acquiring underwater images and video of the seabed, as well as the mapping of oceanic posidonia present in the areas of interest, which constitutes an important data as an environmental indicator of the health status of the local ecosystem.
