Last navigation by ship Maestrale, before returning to La Spezia and definitively ending its operational life.
The unit, after thirty-three years in the service of the country, is preparing to return to base. It will touch some cities for the last time to greet the Italians who will be able to visit it, go out to sea, take part in traveling exhibitions and participate in cultural and charity events that will be organized on board.

Nave Maestrale was the first unit of the class of eight ships of the same name, the so-called Venti class made up of the ships Maestrale, Grecale, Libeccio, Scirocco, Aliseo, Euro, Espero and Zeffiro.

These are ships that have represented the true backbone of the Naval Team, successfully participating in numerous operations to protect national interests in the seas of the world.

More than thirty years ago the construction and entry into service of these units represented the operational relaunch of the Navy fleet and witnessed to the world the excellence of Italian shipbuilding.

The Maestrale frigate will be the sixth unit, in a few months, to be decommissioned, inexorably fueling the process of forced downsizing of the number of Navy ships.

Maestrale has left the port of Chioggia for a few hours, where it participated in the event Blue October, which also saw the intervention of the Navy Chief of Staff, team admiral Giuseppe De Giorgi.

During the stop, numerous events were organized for visitors who wanted to take the last chance to visit the ship. On board an exhibition on the history of the Navy, the opportunity to purchase the 2016 Navy calendar and chocolate hearts of Telethon, to support research.

After leaving the port of Chioggia, the first stop of the Mistral will be Ortona, from 27 to 31 October. It will be possible to visit the ship, meet the crew and contribute to the support of Telethon.
