The Comsubin ready to make up for emergencies in the health system

23/10/14

After a long pause, necessary for a radical modernization of the plant, the oxygen decompression chamber for hyperbaric therapies of the grouping of divers and raiders "Teseo Tesei" of the navy (Comsubin) is operational again.

This plant, born in 1991 with the aim of providing adequate support to the diving activities of military underwater personnel, has often been used in the past to contribute to the resolution of emergencies in the civil sphere.

Once the necessary tests and tests have been completed, the chamber can be made available again to the local health system for emergency treatment:

- of civilian divers suffering from decompression sickness - of all those patients suffering from illnesses not related to diving, but for which the breathing of pure oxygen under pressure determines a strong and immediate benefit, such as for example the monoxide poisoning of carbon, a recurring event especially in the winter months due to malfunctioning exhaust fumes.

This life-saving equipment has been restored thanks to the determination of the grouping command and the dedication of the technical staff of Varignano (The fortress that hosts the Comsubin) which, despite acting in a context of economic hardship, have managed not only to obtain the relative suitability for employment by the local department of INAIL (National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work), but also to provide it with a dedicated medical facility that will make the full cycle of management of possible health emergencies possible.
