Comsubin's divers return to the wreck of the Rabbit Island

06/10/14

It was the 3 October 2013 when a boat loaded with migrants sank in front of the Isle of Rabbits, in Lampedusa, and 368 people lost their lives in what has become the greatest tragedy that Lampedusa remembers.

A year after that huge sea accident, in the presence of the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hon. Laura Boldrini, and of the Foreign Minister, Hon. Federica Mogherini, the divers from Comsubin, along with the other divers who led the recovery of 190 bodies to the depth of 47 meters, have returned to the wreck of the trawler.

During the dive, families were reminded that, in an attempt to reach the Italian coasts, they lost their lives in the search for a more serene condition.

So on the wreck of the fishing boat was placed a painting made by Monica Pizzo, renowned artist of Mazara del Vallo. The work represents two hands clasping each other and on the back bears the signatures of the survivors and family members of the victims of the tragic accident.
