The Northern Challenge is a multinational exercise that takes place annually in Iceland, at the base of Keflavik's Icelandic Coast Guard. The purpose of this activity is to train IEDD (Improvised Explosive Device Disposal) operators to reduce the risk of unconventional explosive devices that represent a very serious threat to the West.

From the 24 to the 29 August, the COMSUBIN divers 'divers' diver, who were trained and trained to neutralize any type of explosive device, took part in the Bomb Building Seminar, a preparatory phase for the Northern Challenge that took place from the 22 September to the 3 October.

In these two phases, the IEDD navy operators, in collaboration with specialists from other European nations, have carried out about 500 improvised explosive devices for exercise, of different invoice and with different activation systems, which have been used in several training scenarios. extreme realism during the operational phase of the exercise.

The name assigned to the exercise (challenge - challenge) well represents the commitment to which the men of the GOS were called, as he was asked to neutralize numerous devices in underwater, naval and terrestrial environments, overcoming real challenges from growing difficulties.

The seminar gave Italian specialists the opportunity to meet in a multinational reality in which the experiences lived on the field by each country were shared, thus increasing their preparation and consequent operational capacity in a very sensitive sector for Europe, especially in virtue of the delicate current political situation in the Middle East.
