The cadets of the Academy of Livorno swear allegiance to the Republic

This morning 104 cadets of the Naval Academy of Livorno have sworn allegiance to the Republic athe presence of Undersecretary of Defense Gioacchino Alfano, of the Chief of Defense General Staff Claudio Graziano and of the Admiral Sq. Giuseppe De Giorgi, Chief of Staff of the Navy. Officials from the navies of Algeria, Djibouti, Kuwait, Malta, Qatar, Peru, Somalia and Ukraine are among the course attendees.

During the ceremony honors were handed out "to the officials who have distinguished themselves for actions carried out in particular and delicate situations of risk, actions that have brought luster to the Armed Forces and to the Country, such as the recovery of the castaways from the Norman Atlantic, the difficult underwater operations related to the accident of the Costa Concordia and activities in Afghan operational theater ".

During the intervention, the undersecretary thanked the mayor of the city of Livorno, who since 6 November 1881, then from 134 years well, supports and welcomes the Naval Academy and recalled the "militarization" and the abnegation "of the two fucilieri Salvatore Girone and Massimiliano Latorre, wishing the final resolution of the ongoing international dispute. Addressing tothe students finally said: "be proud of those who preceded you and continue in their wake to confirm the Italian character of our Navy in the world".
