"I had the honor and privilege of being around 40 days on a ship Cigala Fulgosi, of the Navy, in international waters ... the Navy does a huge job in the middle of the sea ". With these words last night at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome a visibly moved Gianfranco Rosi began the presentation of his documentary film, Fuocoammare, winner of the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.

During the intervention the director turned to the frigate captain Massimo Tozzi, seated in the audience, commander of the Cigala Fulgosi during the recording. "It has always given me enormous support and confidence, without which I could never have shot the images in the film. Thanks commander, I am moved because what you do is truly incredible ”.

In his documentary film, Gianfranco Rosi tells Lampedusa, through Samuele, a twelve-year-old who plays on land while, around him, the thousands of stories of those who, over the past twenty years, have tried to cross the sea surrounding the island follow one another , in search of a better life.
