The Navy has launched a ship Antaeus and the divers of the Diving Operations Group (GOS), of the Diving and Inshore Command (COMSUBIN), for the Rising Star, the annual bilateral exercise with the Israeli Navy.

The most important phase of the exercise saw the use of special equipment for the rescue of the personnel of a damaged submarine laid on the seabed, simulated for the occasion by a submarine of the class Dolphin Israeli.

These exercises are essential to maintain the operational readiness of the men of the GOS and of the ship's crew who need to know how to intervene quickly to rescue the damaged submarines.

The stop in the port of Haifa was also an opportunity to remember the royal submarine Scirè with a ceremony and with the deposition of a commemorative plaque by the divers of the GOS at the underwater memorial dedicated to the Italian submarine. In these waters, in fact, the Scirè, which during the Second World War distinguished itself for the legendary feat of Alexandria (18 December 1941), carried out its last mission, under the command of lieutenant captain Bruno Zelik, sinking after being attacked by the British lookout Islay (10 August 1942).
