Composed of ESPS minesweepers Duero (ESP), FGS Homburg (DEU), HMS Grimsby (UK), TCG Erdek (TUR) and the “Flagship” Aviere (ITA), the group faces a first phase of scheduled activities, aimed at favoring the integration of forces from different nations of the Atlantic alliance.
Coordinated by the staff aboard the Aviere ship, the minesweepers practice, in two successive stages, in the reclamation of the waters in front of the coasts of Murcia and Andalusia, with the premise of reducing to a minimum the risk for the transit of military and merchant traffic in a area of high threat intensity of underwater weapons.
The second part of the Noble Justification focuses on a tactical phase with opposing parties.
The scenario simulates a bilateral crisis between two states, one of which is an ally, in which the forces belonging to the NATO Response Force (NRF) intervene according to the art. 5 of the Treaty, in the first place in order to prevent a further military escalation and guarantee a security framework around the disputed area to protect populations and international security and, subsequently, with the intensification of the crisis, to bring the area itself.
Particular attention is placed on the concept of proportionality of the reaction and on the potential developments that the asymmetric (terrorist) threat and the reaction to it can generate in such a situation.
The Noble Justification participates in land, sea, air and special forces assets of 15 NATO nations and two partner countries (Sweden and Finland).
The exercise will end with the entry into the port of Rota, scheduled for the SNMCMG2 on 24 October, where the post-operative analysis phase and the evaluation of the results will be held.
