152 Joint Warrior exercise for ship Andrea Doria

(To Marina Militare)
08/10/15

After the operational stop at theHer Majesty's naval base of Clyde (HMNB), better known as Faslane, one of the three most important naval bases of the Royal Navy, located within Garelochhead Cove, one of the deepest and most spectacular in North West Scotland, on 4 October. Andrea Doria has "taken the sea" to participate in the exercise Joint Warrior 152. During the stop, carried out from 1 to 4 October, the unit commander, the captain of vessel Angelo Virdis, with his staff, took part in the operational meetings planned to define all the details of the Joint Warrior 152 and At Sea Demonstration 2015 (ASD 15).

In particular, the Joint Warrior 152, will take place off the Hebrides islands, north west of Scotland, from 4 to 14 October and involves the participation of numerous naval, underwater, air and land assets; there will be 28 naval units, 4 submarines, ground troops, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft from 12 NATO countries.
La Joint Warrior 152 is developed on the basis of a fictitious scenario of growing crisis between various international actors, whose main objective, to be achieved during the various phases is to improve the interoperability between the assets of the participating navies in relation to the main forms of struggle (anti-aircraft , anti-surface, anti-submarine), to increase mutual knowledge in terms of contrasting the asymmetric threat, interdiction and control of Sea Line of Communications for the protection of free trade and free shipping.

On this occasion, NATO procedures will also be tested in the field of Ballistic Missile Defense within Maritime: in this regard it is important to note that for the first time, a unit of the Navy will have the opportunity (technical and capacitive) to access an international communication network for data exchange related to "targets", specifically designed for threat defense ballistics.
The participation of Doria ship at this event is, in fact, favored by the presence on board of high-level and technologically advanced systems of communications and air defense missiles. To achieve the desired results, training events will be conducted with increasing difficulty both in cold (simulated) and hot (with the actual use of the shooting facilities), without neglecting aspects concerning the environmental protection and safety of personnel and means.

The entire activity therefore constitutes a precious opportunity for the crew of the Doria ship with a view to increasing professional growth and integration between the Navies of the NATO countries. At the end of this important training activity, the Doria ship will be even better able to fulfill its institutional duties deriving from being at the service of the country's security and national interests.
