"Commando" exercise for the men of the 1st San Marco regiment

A complex exercise was conducted by the 20 at the 23 last October, by the 'Leons' of the 3 ^ company of the 1 ° San Marco regiment (of the San Marco marine brigade) which, as a commando unit, conducted an amphibious raid in the Torre area Veneri (Lecce).

In the night between 20 and 21 October the secret landing of the fusiliers company was carried out on the Salento coast with the support of the San Giusto ship, as a launching platform for the wave of 10 inflatable boats.

The tactical action lasted over 36 hours and reached its peak when, in the presence of the Chief of Staff of the Navy, team admiral Giuseppe De Giorgi, and the commander-in-chief of the naval team, team admiral Filippo Maria Foffi, the 1st RSM unit carried out a real fire attack on planned targets. 

The action had the support of two AB212 helicopters of the 2 helicopter group, which allowed the extraction of a commando team, in rapid succession a motorized platoon of the 3 ^ company conducted an immediate automatic reaction, carried out by a board of four VTLM-Lince (light multi-role tactical vehicle).

At the end of the attack, the company carried out an amphibious withdrawal on board the San Giusto ship, completing the planned training procedure.
