On board a Libeccio ship, currently engaged in the mission Atalanta in the Indian Ocean waters, the 3 last August, a complex exercise was carried out by the team of the COMSUBIN Diving Operative Group, present on board as a specialist EOD (Explosive ordinance disposal) force.

The activity took place at the end of the demonstration, with the aim of involving the entire Libeccio ship crew, and to better understand some of the potential of the team on board.

The simulation foresees the discovery of a suspect object on board the ship (precisely on the deck).

After acquiring as much information as possible about the type and location of the potentially dangerous object, and technically referred to as IED (Improvised Explosive Device), the men of the GOS have begun the delicate procedures for neutralizing the object and securing the ship, making the potential bomb shine with a small charge.

The team which is composed of three operators / specialists and has numerous tools and equipment available, both for analysis and protection, to operate safely even in restricted environments, represents a valid support to the unit in the assigned mission.

In addition to tasks such as EOD, the team deals with various activities, such as the preliminary survey of boats that can sometimes conceal illegal activities, underwater inspection of the dock where the ship will be moored, or as a preventive scan of mail or food arriving under board to be embarked on the Italian frigate.

A particularly delicate and fundamental work, carried out by well-trained men able to identify and neutralize any threat to navigation or to stay in port.
