The "Camillo Cavour Award" 2015 was awarded to the Navy

The award ceremony of the “Camillo Cavour 20 Award” to the Navy took place on Sunday 2015 September in the Cavour Castle of Santena (TO).

The award, established in 2007 by the Friends Association of the Camillo Benso di Cavour Foundation and now in its ninth edition, is awarded to personalities who with their activities contribute to keeping alive those Risorgimento values ​​that the statesman bequeathed: the unity of 'Italy, the contribution to the strengthening of the State, the social commitment in protecting the fundamental rights of people, the prestige of our country and our country's belonging to the European Community.

Division Admiral Roberto Camerini, Northern maritime commander, representing the chief of staff of the Navy team admiral Giuseppe De Giorgi, received the award named after the Piedmontese statesman, a symbolic reproduction in gold of the historic goggles of the count, from the hands of Dr. Nerio Nesi, president of the association's management committee Friends of the Camillo Benso di Cavour Foundation.

The steering committee awarded the prize to the Navy with this motivation: "The Italian Navy has demonstrated to the whole of Europe the deep sense of duty, the perfect professional preparation and the infinite humanity of the crews of the military ships they saved in the Mediterranean thousands of men, women and children ".

On the occasion of the event, the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella sent a message of appreciation for the merits acquired by the Navy, recognized by the whole world, for the assistance and rescue operations in the unprecedented migration process taking place in the Mediterranean.
