The Marevivo association and MSC Cruises team up to transmit the passion for the sea to young people and spread the culture of sustainability inside and outside the classrooms: the school environmental education project will start on Monday 19 October "Dolphins Guardians of the Aeolian and Egadi archipelagos".

At the base of the project there is the conviction that attention to the environment can only start from the generations of future, so it should be focused on the students of the schools that will be the future "guardian dolphins", That is, those who will control and monitor the sea so that it is respected by all. In fact, only a widespread awareness of the new generations can lead to a change of course, indispensable for protecting a territory as precious and fragile as the smaller islands of our country.

For this reason, under the guidance of Marevivo experts, about 450 primary school students of the Aeolian Archipelago (composed of the islands of Lipari, Salina, Vulcano, Stromboli, Panarea, Alicudi, Filicudi) and of the Egadi Archipelago (Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo) will be engaged in reconnaissance on the beach, activities of Sea-watching, will go to 'school' by the artisans and the elders of the island and will discover the secrets contained in the rocks and in the Mediterranean flora.

During the activities, the Port Authority, the Navy and the associations in the area will also be involved. At the end of the first year of this educational path, after having acquired greater awareness and also an ability and willingness to react to situations of neglect, the children will receive the badge of "guardians of the island", which will give them the right and duty to show up, without adult companions, at your Municipality or the Port Authority to report any environmental problems.

But it does not end there: the eco-message of the "guardian dolphins" of the islands will be collected by their peers aboard MSC Cruises ships, because even on vacation and through play it is easier and more fun to learn what it means to protect the environment. . For this Marevivo has prepared recreational and educational materials and following the best practices, which will be made available to the very young and their parents on board, to give life to a tom-tom that unites in the passion and respect for the sea the children who live in the smaller islands and those who sail the Mediterranean aboard ships, real floating islands.

"MSC Cruises believes that being one of the world leaders in the cruise sector entails greater responsibility towards the environment, especially the marine environment" says Leonardo Massa, Country Manager Italy of MSC Cruises. "The commitment to safeguard the marine ecosystem has allowed the company to receive numerous awards over time, for example we are the first in the world to have received the '7 Golden Pearls' for environmental protection thanks to the systems on board the 4 flagships of the fleet for the containment of energy consumption, for food safety, for health and safety at work ".

"The Sea, which represents 71% of the Earth and absorbs one third of the CO2, is the largest treasure chest of biodiversity, at the base of all the trophic chains and the first engine of the climate. This beneficial function is exercised not because it is made of salt water, but because it is a living organism composed of animals and plants in balance between them. Balance achieved in millions of years that has created the optimal conditions for human life on the planet "-  explains the President of Marevivo, Rosalba Giugni - . "Only the knowledge of the importance of the marine ecosystem will be able to develop in young people the need to preserve this immense patrimony of the whole humanity and, therefore, we are grateful to MSC Cruises for the given opportunity to strengthen the network of 'guardian dolphins and spread them the message on its ships and through its important international network "

The Delfini Guardiani project, born in 2009, will involve, in addition to the Aeolian and Egadi islands, also the schools of the islands of Giglio, La Maddalena, Ponza, Ventotene, Capri, Ischia, Lampedusa and Linosa.
