Following the earthquake that this morning affected an area between the regions of Lazio, Umbria and Marche, the Defense made available to the Civil Protection, personnel and specialized assets for the rescue of the population.
From the first moment the military were present to help the population, first with the Carabinieri in local stations, then with the soldiers of the Departments close to the areas affected by the earthquake, first of all the NBC Interforces School of Rieti and the 235 regiment training volunteers from Ascoli Piceno. Already since the morning, as soon as requested by the Civil Protection, special arrangements of the 6 ° regiment genio have moved from Rome with earth moving vehicles, lighting towers and heavy trucks indispensable in these early phases of the emergency.
The Aeronautica Militare is also engaged with fixed and rotary wing vectors to carry out transport and reconnaissance of the area and with a mobile control tower to be deployed at the Rieti airport from where it coordinates the intense air traffic over the area.
In addition, a whole series of departments and skills that could be used later, from the logistics for displaced people to medical evacuation, have been alerted. Among these capacities the blood bank of the Celio Polyclinic, field kitchens in addition to other specialized structures of the genius that are flowing into neighboring areas. Last but not least, the Armed Forces have made available over two hundred beds in the barracks of Ascoli Piceno and Rieti for displaced people who will not be able to return to their homes tonight. A growing commitment that sees the best skills of the Armed Forces serving the citizen.
Working in concert with the Prefectures and Civil Protection, the Defense with its men is a team to support the affected population.
