The Multinational CIMIC Group trains for use in NATO operations

After two weeks of intense activity, the exercise called "Double River 2018" at the "Mario Fiore" barracks, the headquarters of the Multinational CIMIC Group, the Army unit specialized in civil-military cooperation (CIMIC), which organized and conducted the training event.

The purpose of the exercise was to test and evaluate the skills of the Multinational Command staff and CIMIC Units, used to support NATO in adherence to the strict standards required for all components of the Forza basin, such as the Multinational CIMIC Group, interoperable and quickly deployable wherever deemed necessary by the North Atlantic Council, such as Born Responce Force (NRF). Through computerized simulation (Command Post and Computer Assisted Exercise) a scenario has been reproduced, complex and adherent to the modern operational contexts, centered on an international crisis situation between fictitious states, where the International Community has requested the intervention of the coalition. Specifically, the staff was trained through the forwarding of a series of simulated activations that reproduced events / incidents similar to those actually managed in the area of ​​operation. The events concerned in particular the support to the population through the distribution of humanitarian aid and management of possible medical emergencies, support to local authorities through the development of projects related to public facilities, the connection and coordination with civil organizations (OI, GO). , NGO) in order to avoid duplications or redundancies in interventions.

The operative pawns available to the Multinational CIMIC Group they were the Italian and Portuguese CIMIC units. In particular, the Italian one has prepared a CIMIC Center, a structure that, set up in crisis areas, allows the military component to physically interface with the civilian population; this arrangement becomes, in operation, a real point of reference both for the premises and for the numerous organizations that converge in the area with humanitarian purposes.

Furthermore, for the first time the Remote CIMIC Support or the ability to support the CIMIC units, used in military operations, by Mother Patria. This support materializes, in the context of the analysis of the civil dimension of the area of ​​interest, through the advice that i Subject Matter Expert - Functional Specialists such as engineers, architects, doctors and other professionals in the sector - provide CIMIC operators, employed in crisis areas, for the development of projects in favor of the populations where the units are used.

During the "Double River 2018" il Remote CIMIC Support it was insured by Functional Specialists sent by the Slovenian Ministry of Defense as well as by officers of the Selected Army Reserve. Finally, the complex system of computer communications that allowed the interaction of the numerous components of the exercise was provided by a team of operators of the 7 ° regiment transmissions of the Sacile Army.

Among the military authorities present at the exercise there were, for Italy, the general of division Lorenzo D'Addario - deputy head of the III Department of the General Staff Defense - and the Brigadier General Francesco Bindi - commander of the Army Genius - for NATO Commands, the deputy commander of theAllied Rapid Reactions Corps - general of division Roberto D'Alessandro and the head of the CIMIC division of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe - Brigadier General Tonin Marku.

Il Multinational CIMIC Group is a regiment level unit made up of the 2002 (then called CIMIC Group South) which is multinational - in addition to Italy, which represents its framework nation, contribute Greece, Hungary, Portugal, Romania and Slovenia - and interforce, that is, powered by personnel coming from all the weapons and the bodies of the Army, the Navy, the Air Force and the Carabinieri. The CIMIC operators of the Multinational CIMIC Group are currently employed both in International Operations in Kosovo, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Somalia, Djibouti and the Mediterranean (Operation Sophia) and in National Operations for Territorial Operations (Safe Road Operation).
