General Portolano visits the Leonardo, Elettronica and MBDA offices

Day of institutional visits for the general of the army corps Luciano Portolano, general secretary of defense and national director of armaments, who yesterday went to the Roman offices of Leonardo SpA, Elettronica Group SpA and MBDA Italy.

Accompanied by Admiral Chief Inspector Massimo Guma, director of naval armaments of Segredifesa, the first stage saw Dr. Pasquale Di Bartolomeo, chief commercial officer Leonardo do the honors of the house. Leonardo SpA is one of the global players in aerospace, defense and security. During the visit, the general closely observed the integration area of ​​the combat management system, capable of integrating and coordinating in real time the information coming from the various sensors present in a given scenario. The capabilities of Leonardo's foundry, a distinctive European asset in the field of microelectronic components, were also presented.

Subsequently, the general secretary went to the plant of Elettronica SpA, which specializes in the field of electronic countermeasures, the electromagnetic spectrum and cyberspace. To receive the general Eng. Enzo Benigni - president & CEO who accompanied the Segredifesa delegation on their visit to the “Battle Lab”, where the electronic systems currently in use or under development were presented.

With the acquisition of several rather important contracts, the company has strongly focused on research and development in precision engineering applications and metal carpentry and has made significant investments in the purchase of machinery, the use of skilled labor and the update of the electronic assembly system. Thanks to constant dedication in sectors such as research, training and instrumentation for strategic components, by the end of the 1960s Elettronica had already established itself as a leading industry in the European defense market.

In the afternoon, the visit continued at the headquarters of MBDA, the world-leading European missile group, which offers a range of 45 missile systems and countermeasures programs, already in operational service in over 90 countries. There, General Portolano was received by Eng. Lorenzo Mariani, executive group director of MBDA sales & business development and managing director of MBDA Italy. During the briefing at the missile company, the general was shown, in particular, the technological capabilities of the most advanced naval systems: from the new anti-ship missiles Teseo MK2 / E and Mars ER, up to the new ASTER B1NT that will be integrated in the PAMMS systems and in the SAAM ESD system of Multipurpose patrol boats of Altura. The MBDA meeting then concluded with a visit to the software production center and test areas.

At the end of the day, General Portolano said he was very satisfied for having had the opportunity to see firsthand some systems and technologies that represent the state of the art of what is available to meet the new and more challenging requirements for Defense.
