Central Italy earthquake emergency: the commitment of the armed forces increases

The rescue work of the Armed Forces continues unabated in favor of the populations hit by the earthquake of 24 August last: over 850 men and women of the Army and the Air Force are employed in the operation called "Sabina", whose main task at the moment it is contributing to the removal of rubble and the opening of the road network blocked by debris. In this regard, units of the Army Engineers are working to restore the main access road to the city of Amatrice, represented by the "Tre Occhi" bridge, declared uninhabitable and in place of which a by pass.

To these are added teams dedicated to supporting the activities of the agencies involved, including Civil Protection, Firefighters and Red Cross, coordination and planning, but also specialized teams with special skills such as psychological support.

The Navy also contributes to rescue operations: a platoon of riflemen from the marine brigade is operational Saint Mark of Brindisi. These are soldiers who will be involved in the task of removing the rubble and operating in support of the population hit by the earthquake. Some riflemen sent to the area of ​​the earthquake belong to the logistic battalion "Golametto", trained and prepared to operate in the field of field structures (tents, supplies ...).

The Arma dei Carabinieri also contributes more than 500 soldiers, mainly engaged in anti-stripping surveillance activities in the earthquake-hit cities and in the many suburban hamlets.
