Defense: from 3 to 7 July in Frosinone the 2023 edition of the Grifone exercise

​From 3 to 7 July the military airport of Frosinone will host the 2023 edition of the exercise Grifone, the main training event of Search and Rescue (SAR) of an international, inter-agency, inter-agency and inter-ministerial nature.

The base of the 72nd wing of the Air Force will be the nerve center of the training activities where all the aircraft and ground rescue teams involved in the exercise will converge.

Field training will take place in the area of ​​the Lepini mountains and in the Simbruini mountains, respectively to the south-west and north-east of the city.

All the national institutions operating in the search and rescue sector participate in the complex exercise scenario, training to deepen and standardize the mutual knowledge of means, equipment, procedures and capabilities, to always be ready to operate for the benefit of citizens.

During the training activity, the aircraft of all the Armed Forces will be involved:

- for the Italian Air Force, two helicopters, one HH-139 and one TH-500, as well as one SIAI U-208 aircraft;
- for the Italian Army, one NH-90 Army Aviation helicopter;
- for the Navy a SH-90 helicopter;
- for the Carabinieri an AW-139 helicopter;
- for the Guardia di Finanza two helicopters, one AW-139 and one AW-169;
- for the State Police an AW-139 helicopter.

Finally, also this year there will be personnel and assets of foreign armed forces operating in the "search and rescue" sector, as well as international observers.

In particular, the Ejercito del Aire y del Espacio participates with two helicopters, a CN-235 and an S-76, the same thing for the Armée de l'Air and de l'Espace which takes part in the activity with an AS 332 and an AS 555.

The land rescue teams will be made up of personnel from the "Fucilieri dell'Aria" of the 16th Wing of Martina Franca (TA) of the Air Force, personnel from the Italian Army, the Guardia di Finanza, volunteer nurses of the Italian Red Cross , the Alpine and Speleological Rescue of the Lazio Region, the local Civil Protection and health personnel of the 118 service.
