CASD: the closing ceremony of the 2017-2018 Academic Year

"Defense is one of the fundamental functions of every society that gives itself a political organization. It is essential because security is an indispensable asset. It is the premise for the very existence of a community, and then it is the necessary condition for the well-being of its citizens".

Thus the Minister of Defense, Elisabetta Trenta, this morning during the closing ceremony of the 2017-2018 academic year for those attending the 69th session of the Higher Studies Institute for Defense and the 20th course of the Higher Institute of the General Staff Joint forces.

Ceremony, held at Palazzo Salviati, which was attended by the Chief of Defense, General Claudio Graziano, the president of the Centro Alti Studi per la Difesa, general of ca Massimiliano Del Casale, leaders of the armed forces and numerous family members of the visitors .

The "Defining choices in terms of defense is one of the most significant tasks of any political group that has the responsibility of the government of a country"Added the minister who then added in his speech:"The Government of which I am a part of this responsibility is clear, and it is clear that the complex interweaving that connects the founding principles of our national collectivity, the duties that are implicit in being part of a wider international community, and the needs dictated by events and the international security scenario".

A complex and changing scenario that sees our country at the center of an arc of crisis that envelops us from east to south, to which Italy looks carefully: "we want to pay increasing attention to this worrying period of crisis. We consider it our priority because it is right to devote the greatest resources to threats, obvious or latent, that reach us directly. And we also consider it our duty as responsible actors of the international community, because the Mediterranean region is not only strategic for Italy but for all the countries that compose it.".

"We intend to do it, of course, guided by the fundamental precepts that I have already mentioned, and as part of the Euro-Atlantic community"The minister said explaining that the UN, the European Union, NATO and all other international organizations"they must be more present and look more effectively at this region".

The minister then addressed the attendees who today completed the training course at the CASD: "The challenges I have outlined not only concern the Government, they will also concern you, who will be the first to experience them concretely, and you will be in the right place, at the right time, to assert your abilities".

"I am sure that you will be able to do it very well, with the awareness and the serenity that come from a long and prestigious professional career, completed by this last year of training superior to CASD"Said the head of the Dicastery who said"convinced that this Center, already now an excellence at national and international level, can grow further as a cultural center increasingly open to the academic and research world".

A sign of novelty with respect to the past years, today's ceremony ended with the awarding of diplomas to those attending the IASD and ISSMI courses.
