4th Defense and Policy Dialogue (DPD): an important international relationship for 50 years

Today the Undersecretary of State for Defense Matteo Perego of Cremnago spoke at the 4th Defense and Policy Dialogue (DPD) at the end of the 2nd Working Group on Defense Cooperation strategic partnership between Italy and Vietnam.

After a greeting, the undersecretary highlighted the importance of relations between the two states, which have spanned 50 years.

“The Indo-Pacific Region” Perego said in his speech “counts the fastest growing economies in the world and accounts for 62% of global GDP; it is the EU's second largest export destination and hosts four of the EU's top ten trading partners. It is therefore of national interest, and there is every interest that the regional architecture remains open and based on rules”.

"There is great potential to intensify Italy-Vietnam relations in the defense sector with the aim of obtaining mutual benefits" declared the Undersecretary of State for Defense in the final part of his speech “after the pandemic and in this complex geo-strategic situation generated by the Russian – Ukrainian conflict we must all remain focused on creating the conditions for a global, inclusive and sustainable socio-economic recovery in all sectors”.

The objectives of the DPD are to: strengthen cooperation in the defense field, promote the capabilities of Italian industry in the defense sector and create links between Italian defense industries and Vietnamese "decision makers".
