VI World military games in Korea: the departing Italian delegation

The Italian delegation that will participate in the World Military Games (GMM) took off today for Korea, the host country of this sixth edition.

The 81 Italian athletes will compete in 13 different Olympic and Paralympic disciplines with over 4500 athletes, coming from more than 100 nations, in this important event, organized by the International Council of Military Sport (CISM), which sees sport as a fundamental factor for the growth of values ​​such as closeness and friendship among peoples. In fact, the Council's motto is "friendship through sport".

The Italian athletes, of international and Olympic level, in force to the sport groups of Army, Navy, Aeronautics, Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza, will have the task to bring up the Tricolor as the athletes did well in the previous editions.

Particular attention will be given to Paralympic athletes, an absolute novelty of this edition: Italy will bring 4 athletes with disabilities, of which one is a woman, who will compete in athletics and archery.

The opening ceremony will be held on October 2 in the city of Mungyeong (Korea).

To all 118 members of the Italian delegation, including athletes, technical staff and accompanying managers, the Defense Chief of Staff, General Claudio Graziano, sent a heartfelt “Come on guys!”. Military sports groups - he added - they are an excellence not only for Italian sport but for all the armed forces that combine in them: commitment, spirit of sacrifice and physical preparation.
