Leonardo's new plant dedicated to the Group's avionics activities was inaugurated today in L'Aquila.

After the greeting addresses of Leonardo's top management, the president De Gennaro and the CEO Profumo, the undersecretary Rossi intervened, representing the government, first of all reaffirmed “the closeness to the Abruzzo territory and the importance of this new pole that ensures an important employment opportunity for the society of the future ”.

"In today's world, characterized by profound insecurity caused by an increasingly unpredictable and asymmetrical threat, the defense industry has assumed an important and relevant role in the national context"Said Rossi later,"In particular, the technological aspects represent a flagship for Italian industry and Leonardo is a national reference not only in this sector".

Undersecretary Rossi concluded, “Today from this new Leonardo headquarters we can look to the future with greater optimism”.

The new site, also built thanks to the contribution of the Abruzzo region, employs 450 people including specialized technical engineers who develop activities for the design and certification of identification systems (Identification Friend or Foe - IFF) installed on board military and civil aircraft, and of avionic communications equipment. These technologies are particularly crucial in complex military operations because they allow pilots to automatically recognize “friendly” aircraft belonging to allied forces, and to exchange information and data.
