The Undersecretary of State for Defense, Honorable Domenico Rossi, took part today, in the municipality of Padru, in Sardinia, in the celebration of Holocaust Memorial Day.
After the laying of a laurel wreath, on the notes of the band of carabinieri, to honor all the fallen, Undersecretary Rossi expressed words of appreciation to the mayor of Padru, Antonio Satta, for the significant initiative that recalls the Holocaust and honors the courage of the survivors.
In his speech, Undersecretary Rossi, then remarked "the need to remember and reaffirm the values of justice, social equity and peace, which are the basis of our Constitution," he continued, "remembering is an obligation that we have in the towards young people, from the world of school, against all forms of indifference, so as not to weaken consciences ".
"On days like today, the government's duty is to be present and close to all the communities, even the smallest, in the country", concluded Mr Rossi, "and, today, by Padru, we send a message of peace and solidarity that reaches every other place in Italy where the Memorial Day".
The ceremony concluded with the awarding of the elementary and middle classes of the Padru schools which carried out the elaborations resulting from a reflection on the meaning of Holocaust Memorial Day. Special thanks were addressed by the Undersecretary to teachers.
On the sidelines of the event, responding to questions from journalists on the subject of military servitude, Undersecretary Rossi confirmed "the commitment of Defense, openness to dialogue, the desire to identify a meeting point, throughout Italy, and beyond in Sardinia, among those that are the needs of the territory and the training of the personnel of the armed forces, fundamental for the security of our soldiers who are engaged on the national territory and abroad to serve the country ".
