Rome, Palazzo Marina's neo-baroque opens to the public on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8

This weekend it will be possible to visit Palazzo Marina, the historic headquarters of the Navy General Staff.
The event is part of the activities ofOpen House Roma, now at the 5th edition. The initiative has taken on ever increasing cultural relevance in recent years and will allow the free visit of well-known 170 architectural sites in the capital. A weekend that will allow the public to experience the city in an innovative and participatory way, through the rediscovery of its architectural structures.

The event, sponsored by the Senate of the Republic, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism is made possible thanks to the Association Open City Rome and the participation of more than 700 volunteers including young students, professors and architects.

Compared to previous editions, the great news ofOpen House Roma 2016 sees the increase of 50% of the sites accessible in the Capital, allowing the visit of private houses and architectural firms as well as historical and modern buildings. Innovative is also the establishment of real thematic areas including: "Abitare", "Factory and Production" and "Crossing the history", which will allow the public to choose the architectural path that is more in keeping with their own interests and curiosities .

The Navy has joined this great cultural initiative. The doors of Palazzo Marina, in the heart of Rome, will be open to the public free of charge. The imposing 31.000 square meter building, dating back to the 1928, was designed by the architect Giulio Magni and built entirely in the Neo-Baroque architectural style. Through the guided tour, visitors can admire the interior rooms decorated with precious stuccowork and charming decorations and observe the refinement and refinement of the furnishings.

It will be possible to visit the Sala dei Marmi and the wonderful Library, composed of 50.000 volumes on military and naval themes, some of which date back to '500. In its architectural structure, Palazzo Marina reveals "elegance and elegance" but it is also a building steeped in history, rich in memorabilia and iconography.
