Portoferraio: visit to Navy sailboats from 17 to 19 September

From the 16 to the 20 September sailing school ships Great Bear, Capricia (Photo) North Star e Caroly of the Navy will stop at the Medicean dock in the port of Portoferraio, the penultimate stage of the second phase of the 2016 Education Campaign.

The group of sailing ships aims to contribute to the training of future Navy officers. Currently the students of the 2 Technical Bodies of the Naval Academy of Livorno are present on board, together with the fixed crews on board they have participated in a series of regattas in the waters off Imperia.

The four units, in addition to training activities for the students of the training institutes of the Navy, carry out awareness-raising activities for the protection of the marine environment, activities for the dissemination of maritime education aimed at respecting and enhancing the sea and participate in the regattas of vintage sails of the Circuits AIVE (Associazione Italiana Vele d'Epoca) and foreign.

An activity dedicated to training and transmitting the traditions of the Navy for young students, as well as an opportunity for citizens to get on board.

Ship Great Bear, the largest of all with its 28,3 mt and headquarters of the Navi Scuola Group Command of the frigate captain Marco Paolo Montella, is an Italian construction of the 1994, built at the Tencara shipyards of Venice.

Ship North Star, also designed and built specifically for the Navy, is in service since 1965, while Nave Caroly (1943) and Ship Capricia (1963) are boat owners donated to the Navy by the Preve family and the Agnelli family respectively.

Citizenship will be able to visit sailing school ships from Saturday 17 to Monday 19 September, from 14: 30 to 19: 00.
