Music and solidarity: perfect match at the Navy concert

A possible and certainly perfect combination that unites music and solidarity. A combination that has characterized the Navy Santa Barbara Concert for the past three years, the most important musical event of the Armed Forces, alongside the Telethon Foundation and which was held at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome last night.

In a packed theater the Navy band, composed of 102 professional musicians and directed by frigate captain Antonio Barbagallo, has performed in various pieces and musical genres. Exciting tributes to the master Ennio Morricone, with a medley of his most famous soundtracks, and to the singer-songwriter Lucio Dalla, remembered with the song Caruso interpreted by the tenor Claudio Minardi. And again Queen, the music of James Bond and I will always love you by Dolly Parton interpreted by the soprano, a young promise of Italian opera, Monica de Propis.

Music and solidarity, but not only. Even music, sea and services: those that the Navy renders to the community by making its facilities and crews available in collaboration with the university, association, health and research world, as underlined by Chief of Staff Valter Girardelli. And it is precisely to research, that on rare genetic diseases, that the evening was dedicated, through a fundraising initiative with Telethon's chocolate hearts.

"What unites us from Telethon to the Navy - declared Francesca Pasinelli, general manager of the Foundation - it is the idea that no life is worth so little, however rare, to be left behind. Each person is a person who must be saved, whatever the sea in which he finds himself".

The Minister of Defense, Roberta Pinotti, was absent for institutional reasons and said in a video message: "I would like to thank you because also with this concert you demonstrate the great heart of the Navy. I have seen it in many missions, in saving so many lives, in the professionalism of each of your components, in the ability to team up. This initiative for Telethon is a beautiful transposition of what the Marina does for the country, at the service of those in need, in this case towards those who do research and volunteer work".
