In front of a large audience of young people from high school, the inauguration ceremony of the traveling exhibition of the high school was held on Thursday in Manduria, at the Liceo De Sanctis Army General Staff - Historical Office, edited by the Army Military Command "Puglia" dedicated to the 1 World War II and entitled: "The Great War. Faith and Value ".
The exhibition is located in the context of the commemorative events of the Centenary of the First World Conflict and tells, through the images of the didactic panels, the tragic events of that tormented historical period.
The exhibition, in addition to relics, uniforms, vintage hats and helmets and prints, generously made available by private collectors Franco Tria and Piero Violante, contains an exclusive collection of thirty-six lithographic postcards, born from sketches that Tommaso Cascella created drawing inspiration from his experience as a war correspondent for the magazine “La Grande Illustration” directed by his father Basilio Cascella.
The event opened with the national anthem, played by the Fanfare of the National Bersaglieri Association and sung by the thundering voice of maestro Antonio Stragapede.
After the greeting from the mayor of Manduria dr. Roberto Massafra, professor Maria Maddalena Di Maglie, dean of the De Sanctis-Galilei Institute framed the war event in a precise and timely manner, focusing on the social and cultural innovations that characterized that period.
Colonel Michele Ask - Chief of Staff of the Puglia Army Military Command - in answering the questions of the event presenter, Floriana Rignanese, appreciated the winning Army-School-Institutions synergy, thanking the principal Di Maglie, the mayor of Massafra and the 'councilor for Culture Cosimo Lariccia who strongly wanted the event, underlining how the exhibition of photographs, prints, and illustrations of the time represents a cross-section of the entire society of the period, which lived with and in the Army the first great moment of national unity.
