In the morning today Minister Trenta visited the Joint Intelligence Center (CII), commanded by Brigadier General Giorgio Cipolloni. To welcome the political summit on his arrival, the Chief of Defense Staff, General Claudio Graziano, the Head of the Information and Security Department, Division Admiral Fabrizio Simoncini and the commander of the Center.
During the visit, the Center's activities were described to the owner of the Department of Defense, which, among the main tasks, has the task of supporting military personnel who work abroad through constant information updates.
The Joint Forces Intelligence Center was born on January 1, 1998, within the II Information and Security Department of the Defense Staff, in implementation of the dictates of the reform law of military leaders, through the suppression and simultaneous merger of the Operational Information and Security Services of the individual Armed Forces, until then deputies to carry out the activities of military intelligence institutionally.
In this way, the Defense achieved the twofold result of rationalizing and optimizing the resources used in military-technical intelligence, as well as having a more flexible tool that was better suited to the new information needs. In fact, over the years, the CII has participated, with personnel and means, in all operational activities to protect the garrisons and activities of the Armed Forces in operations abroad, providing an essential contribution to the fulfillment of missions and to guarantee the necessary security framework for our national contingents.
