"Memorial Day of Sailors Running in the Sea"

On Friday 9 September the Navy will commemorate those who died at sea with the commemorative ceremony of the "Day of Remembrance of the Sailors Disappeared at Sea", in perennial memory of the sacrifice of the military and civilian sailors who disappeared at sea.

The celebration will take place at the National Monument to the "Sailor of Italy" in Brindisi.

The commemorative day from the 2012 is celebrated on the day when the sinking of the battleship is remembered Roma and the destroyers From Noli e Vivaldi the 9 September 1943, day after the Armistice.

That tragic 9 September, the sea swallowed up most of the crews of the ships hit. A total of almost 1700 sailors, including the commander of the battleship Roma, captain of the vessel Aidone Del Cima and the commander of the Battaglia Naval Forces of the Regia Marina, the admiral Carlo Bergamini.

The 17 June of the 2012, lying over a thousand meters deep and about 16 miles from the Sardinian coast, the wreck of the battleship was located Roma which represents one of the most important shrines of the Navy.
