Military Navy Day - appointments scheduled for the 9 June

(To Marina Militare)
07/06/16

The anniversary of the heroic "Impresa di Premuda" is just around the corner. In fact, on 10 June, the "Day of the Navy" is celebrated.

The institution of this anniversary dates back to March 13, 1939, when each armed force was called upon to choose a day to celebrate their deeds and traditions. The Navy indicated this date, in memory of one of the most significant and daring actions carried out on the sea during the 1st World War, the sinking of the Austrian battleship St. Stephen - Santo Stefano, on 10 June 1918, from a section of two assault vehicles (MAS), under the command of the lieutenant captain Luigi Rizzo.

This year, in Rome, the "Day of the Navy" will be celebrated on Thursday 9 June, from 10.30 at Palazzo Marina, in the presence of the President of the Republic, the Minister of Defense and the Chief of Defense Staff.

The live streaming of the ceremony will start at 10.25, on WebTV of the Navy.

In addition to the ceremony, a rich program of events was developed to celebrate Navy Day together with the public:

- the deposition of a laurel wreath on the tomb of the great admiral Thaon di Revel;

- the Mobile Information Center in Piazza del Popolo;

- the exhibition of the High Representation Platoon and, to follow, the concert of the Navy Band;

- the change of the Guard of Honor at the Quirinal Palace between the company of San Marco and that of the marshals.
