In recent days, the 19th National Conference of medical officers and health personnel of the Italian Red Cross, held this year in Reggio Calabria, at Palazzo Campanella, headquarters of the Regional Council of Calabria, has been concluded.

The event took place, in particular, in the modern auditorium named after the hero Reggino Nicola Calipari, an official of SISMI (the then Italian secret service), who died in Iraq during the recovery of the journalist Giuliana Sgrena, kidnapped by the jihadists in February 2005 .

The cycle of workshops, aimed at all CRI health personnel and professionals in the sector who wanted to update their scientific knowledge and improve their technical skills, has developed in a "four days" (from 5 to 8 October) full of interesting interventions, inaugurated by that of the national vice-president of the Italian Red Cross, Rosario Valastro, and by that of Professor Pasquale Amato (professor of Contemporary History in the Faculty of Political Sciences of Messina who, on the eve of the event, had declared : "I am proud that the XIX Convention of the CRI medical officers, so important for the ability to intervene to safeguard many lives and health in Italy and in the world, takes place in my beloved region, in Reggio Calabria, one of the oldest cities of Italy, founded in 730 aC I am also happy to be able to do a masterly reading that was entrusted to me after the 1908 earthquake, and I will do my best to honor this commitment as much as possible "), on the disastrous and sadly famous Calabrian-Sicilian earthquake of 1908, then followed by several others, all of important value.

The various themes dealt with, all aimed at comparing and studying the doctrines and strategies to be implemented in the coordination and management of the catastrophic event (including that due to NBCR-nuclear, bacteriological, chemical and radiological events - with the valuable contribution, among others, the medical colonel CRI Romano Tripodi and Professor Ettore Calzolari), as well as the interactive exercises "on the field" (surgical theater): very special and suggestive that direct, on the day of 6 October, by the same national inspector of the Italian Red Cross Military Corps, major general CRI Gabriele Lupini, and Professor Gennaro Rispoli, currently director of both the General Surgery of the Ascalesi Hospital and of that of the San Giovanni Bosco Hospital (both of Naples).

Also of great interest are the round tables on the legal aspects linked to the rescuer's profile, both in terms of internal and international regulations, faced in a highly qualified manner by jurists such as Giuseppe Campagna, magistrate, president of the 1st civil section of the Court of Reggio Calabria, and of the lawyer Gerardo Di Ruocco, a member, among others, of the National Commission for International Humanitarian Law of the Italian Red Cross, of which the relative president, Dr. Pietro Ridolfi, was present to give prestige and wise contribution to the whole.

A precious accompaniment of the scientific sessions (which have gone as far as the scenarios related to robotics), there were no worldly occasions: among them, the Concert of the Music Band of the Southern Mobilization Center of the Military Corps CRI, directed by M ° Antonio Tinelli , held on Saturday afternoon, in the prestigious and enchanting setting of the Federica Monteleone hall.

General Lupini satisfied that he was satisfied "Since its first edition, 'our' conference is among the most important in the national panorama of scientific events in the health sector, so much so that this year the Ministry of Health has recognized numerous training credits for continuing education in medicine. It was undoubtedly a moment to strengthen body spirit and also an opportunity to relate to professional experiences that have converged in the congressional works of scientific and cultural deepening of high depth thanks to the numerous and important speakers from the academic, military and civil. This XNUMXth edition had a particular value, then, given the delicate moment of the reorganization phase of the Italian Red Cross and the voluntary military corps ".

From the thickness of the conference, from the issues dealt with, and from the passion that animates his staff, even if now all on leave (present - by the way - also the president of the ANMCRI - National Military Association on Italian Red Cross leave, Colonel Giuseppe Scrofani ), following the recent reform which, completed in these days, has seen the transformation of the body into a totally voluntary component (no longer, therefore, the presence, among its ranks, of actual staff), one can not be sure of the fact that it remains and will remain a precious resource for the country, always and always in the front line to face the challenges of the future with preparation and professionalism. After having, of course, always marked with value and self-denial, as in his style, in the past and, if we want, in those present.
