Open to the public at Palazzo Aeronautica "In the sign of the Prancing Horse", on weekends until April 24th

(To air Force)
08/04/16

The exhibition "In the sign of the Prancing Horse. Francesco Baracca between myth and history" was inaugurated yesterday, organized by the Italian Air Force, the Autonomous Province of Trento, the Aeronautical Museum Gianni Caproni of Trento and the Francesco Baracca Museum in Lugo (RA), with the aim of recounting and making known the figure of the major Asso of Italian hunting during the First World War and the history of prancing Horse, recently recognized as the most famous Italian symbol in the world.

The date chosen for the inauguration of the exhibition - which is part of the commemorations of the Centenary of the Great War - it is significant in that it exactly coincides with the centenary of the first victory of the Italian Hunting, achieved precisely by Baracca with the demolition of an Austro-Hungarian Hansa-Brandeburg reconnaissance aircraft the 7 April 1916.

On weekends between the 8 and the 24 April, at the Hall of Heroes of Palazzo Aeronautica in Rome, it will therefore be possible to admire, for the first time all together thanks to the synergy between the three museums, the most important memorabilia and documents available on the famous aviator. In a path that is interwoven between anecdotes, testimonies and unique memorabilia, it will also be possible to learn about some lesser-known aspects of the legendary, short life of the Ace, while retracing the salient events of the First World War. The exhibition will also be an opportunity to learn more about the history of the prancing Horse: from the origins of the symbol, with its use as the distinctive emblem of Baracca on the airplanes he drives, to its evolution, from an iconographic and symbolic point of view, with the transition from the aeronautical world to that of motor racing and motorcycling.
