A few months before the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Atlantic Alliance (it was the 1949), the Club Atlantico of Bologna will celebrate the 30 years since its foundation with a conference to be held next November 22, at 17.00, at the Military Academy of Modena.
The event will be opened by the president of the association, gen. b. (res.) Giuseppe Paglialonga for a brief illustration of the aims of the Club and the results achieved in the years of activity. It will then touch on the gen. ca (aus.) Giorgio Battisti, former commander of the NATO rapid reaction army corps (NRDC-ITA) in Italy and chief of staff of the ISAF mission in Afghanistan (2013-2014), enter the meeting, moderating the conference on theme "NATO, an all-encompassing Alliance".
Topical issue, around which politicians, academics and the military will be confronted according to the following program of interventions:
- on. Guglielmo Picchi, Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs: "Towards NATO for the next 20 years"
- Ambassador Gabriele Checchia: "An alliance still alive and at 360 degrees"
- prof. Massimo De Leonardis, Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Milan: "Seventy years of the Atlantic Alliance, between continuity and transformation"
- prof. Fabrizio W. Luciolli, president of the Italian Atlantic Committee: "Italy and NATO: role and action of the Italian Atlantic Committee"
- January ca Roberto Perretti, commander (NRDC-ITA): "NRDC-ITA rapid reaction tool at the service of NATO and the country".
The Italian Atlantic Committee, to which the Club Atlantico of Bologna is a member, has been carrying out research, training and information on foreign policy, security and international affairs related to the Atlantic Alliance for over 60 years, with particular reference to Italy's role in NATO. Internationally, the Italian Atlantic Committee assures Italy's presence in the Atlantic Treaty Association (ATA), an international liaison between NATO and the public views of the member countries of the Atlantic Alliance.
The ATA, joined by all NATO member countries, has taken on new tasks and an increasing importance with the association of the Atlantic Committees of the Countries of the Partnership for Peace and the Mediterranean Dialogue.
The Italian Atlantic Committee actively participates in the ATA programs and is the promoter of various international cooperation initiatives with NATO member and partner countries. In 2014, the president of the Italian Atlantic Committee, prof. Fabrizio W. Luciolli, was elected president of the Atlantic Treaty Association for three years.
During the meeting of the ATA Council held in Brussels in June 2017, President Luciolli was unanimously reconfirmed for a second term 2018-2020.
At the national level, the Italian Atlantic Committee organizes educational and training activities for civil and military personnel, as well as conferences and debates at academic and school institutions, also using the network of local Atlantic clubs whose activities are coordinated and promoted.
Study, research and analysis play a fundamental role in the activities of the Italian Atlantic Committee which, to this end, promotes projects and initiatives also in collaboration with international study and research centers.
A particular effort is dedicated to initiatives to deepen and discuss foreign and security policy issues addressed to university students, young researchers and professionals, such as the Youth Atlantic Treaty Association (YATA) and the Youth Network for Cooperation in the Mediterranean (YNCM).
