November 21, Open Day at Palazzo Marina

19/11/14

Open Day at Palazzo Marina next Friday 21 November as part of Administrative Transparency Day, a three-year program launched by the Ministry of Defense to make citizens aware of the organizational and working reality of the department.

Palazzo Marina will be open to all those interested in knowing and admiring the masterpieces and architectural and figurative preciousness of the historic building.

A collection of assets of historical and artistic value that the Navy wants to enhance and to make known to an increasingly wider public for a shared re-appropriation and awareness of Italian history.

The entrance will be from Lungotevere delle Navi, 17 with guided tours from 10,00-12,00 and from 14,00 to 18,00, entrance through the main door characterized by the two large anchors.

The Palazzo della Marina was designed by the architect Giulio Magni, Valadier's nephew. The building is an imposing complex that extends to 31.000 sqm, of which 11.500 covered. The entrance propylaeum is enriched by the anchors of two Austrian battleships of the First World War: "Viribus Unitis" and "Tegetthoff".

In the planning and realization of the environments the desire to insert metaphorical elements linked to the sea predominates, as if the whole building were to be the decorated stage of the life of the Navy.
